STORY PART 2 — His Daughter Ate Scraps While the Principal Hid Fourteen Names

4.9Editorial score

Before Calvin could say the name, the cafeteria doors opened.

Mayor Grant Hawthorne entered with two uniformed police officers behind him.

Brielle ran toward him.

“Dad, he threatened me!”

Calvin had not raised his voice at her once, but the mayor wrapped an arm around his daughter and stared across the cafeteria as if he had arrived to confront an attacker.

“Mr.

Coleman,” he said, “step away from the students and hand over that folder.”

One of the officers glanced uncertainly at Calvin.

The other looked toward the security camera above the trash bins.

Calvin closed the folder but kept it in his hands.

“Is this your signature?”

He held up the page.

The mayor did not need to move closer.

His face changed the moment he saw it.

Brielle saw the change too.

“Dad?”

Grant tightened his arm around her shoulders.

“That document is school property.”

“It concerns my daughter.”

“It concerns a disciplinary matter involving repeated misconduct.

Your daughter was warned about giving away meals, manipulating other students, and creating conflict with Brielle.”

Iris stood behind Calvin with her arms wrapped around herself.

He turned to her.

“Did you give away your lunch?”

She hesitated.

“Sometimes.”

“To whom?”

A small boy at a nearby table began to cry.

Iris looked toward him.

“His account kept getting blocked.

He said his mother was working two jobs and couldn’t come to the school.

I gave him my sandwich twice.”

The boy’s older sister stood from another table.

“It was more than twice.

Iris gave him food almost every day.”

Dr.

Vale stepped forward.

“That is precisely the behavior we were attempting to stop.

Students cannot distribute food without regard for allergies or school procedure.”

Calvin opened the folder again.

“Then why was Iris’s account suspended instead of her being given a warning?”

“She was given several warnings.”

“Where are they?”

Dr.

Vale said nothing.

“Where are the notices sent to me?”

Silence.

Calvin looked at Elena’s audit on his phone.

“There are no parent notifications.

No disciplinary reports.

No documented meetings.

Just a manual order denying her meals.”

Mayor Hawthorne gave a short, dismissive laugh.

“You can turn this into a legal spectacle if you like, Calvin.

It won’t change the fact that your daughter broke rules.”
