STORY PART 3 — His Mistress Sent the Video That Made His Pregnant Wife Disappear

Clare had not screamed.

She had set the phone down, taken two steps toward the kitchen, and collapsed.

Dr.

Blake found her twenty minutes later after Clare managed to activate the emergency contact on her watch.

At the hospital, a nurse named Elena held Clare’s hand during the examination.

There were early contractions, dehydration, and dangerously elevated blood pressure.

The baby’s heartbeat had briefly slowed before stabilizing.

“You need quiet,” Dr.

Blake had told her.

“Not just tonight.

You need to remove yourself from whatever brought you here.”

Clare stared at the empty chair beside the hospital bed.

That was when she stopped waiting for Nathan.

Emma helped her pack the following morning.

They took baby clothes, medical records, personal documents, and the small rocking chair Clare’s mother had used when Clare was an infant.

Clare left most of the apartment untouched.

She placed one diamond earring on the table and kept the other in her pocket.

Emma had asked why.

“Because that marriage had two versions,” Clare said.

“The one he displayed and the one I survived.”

Nathan called Rebecca seven times that afternoon.

She answered once and repeated the rules of the temporary order.

He could send written messages about Clare’s health or the baby.

He could not contact Clare directly.

He could not come to Emma’s home.

He could not threaten, pressure, or use family members as intermediaries.

His first written message contained four sentences.

Is the baby safe?

Are you safe?

I did not know Sienna contacted you.

I am sorry.

Clare read it but did not respond.

Nathan spent the next two days calling banks, reviewing statements, and searching through email accounts he had barely bothered to secure.

The more he looked, the worse the picture became.

Sienna had submitted false consulting invoices.

She had used access Nathan gave her to schedule transfers and charge hotels, jewelry, and airfare to company accounts.

She had also forwarded herself internal documents that had nothing to do with her supposed work.

Nathan confronted her in the lobby of her hotel after his attorney advised him to preserve messages and avoid private meetings.

Sienna arrived wearing dark glasses and the cashmere coat he had bought her.

“You disappeared,” she said.

“I’ve been calling.”

“My wife was in the hospital.”

Sienna removed her glasses slowly.

“And she survived.”

The coldness of the answer stunned him.

“You sent her that photograph.”

“She needed to know.”

“You told her to stop calling while she was having contractions.”

“I didn’t know she was having contractions.”

“You knew she was pregnant.”

Sienna stepped closer and lowered her voice.

“Do not stand here pretending you were a devoted husband until I corrupted you.

You complained about her every night.

You said she was dull.

You said the pregnancy made her clingy.
