nearly thirty percent.

The difference would have returned to Brandon through an offshore account.

Elias removed his glasses.

“Were you planning to use Witford’s money to purchase an asset from your associate, conceal the overpayment, and dilute the Hale trust before the board could review the transaction?”

Brandon straightened his jacket.

“Every major transaction contains structures that look unusual when taken out of context.”

“What context makes theft acceptable?” Madison asked.

He looked at her as though he had forgotten she could speak in that room.

“You have no idea what it takes to run this company,” he said.

“Your father handed you control because you were his daughter.

I earned my position.”

Madison absorbed the words without flinching.

“My father hired you as a regional sales manager,” she said.

“I recommended you for the executive track.

I introduced you to every director in this room.

When he died, I defended you because I believed you loved the company as much as I did.”

“You abandoned it.”

“I trusted my husband.”

The answer landed harder than anger would have.

Madison continued.

“You mistook trust for ignorance.

You mistook restraint for weakness.

And last night, while I was giving birth to your son, you celebrated stealing the last thing my father left me.”

For the first time, Brandon had no immediate reply.

Laya broke the silence.

“I did not know about the offshore account,” she said.

“Or the forged transfer.”

Brandon turned on her.

“You signed the consulting invoices.”

“You created them.”

“You benefited from them.”

“So did you.”

Their alliance dissolved in front of the board.

Each sentence exposed another detail.

Laya admitted Brandon had promised her an executive title after the merger.

Brandon accused her of pushing him to remove Madison before the baby arrived.

Laya revealed that he had planned to announce their relationship as soon as Madison accepted a settlement.

“He told me she would be grateful for an apartment and monthly allowance,” Laya said.

Madison looked at Brandon.

“You planned my life without asking me.”

“I planned a solution,” he replied.

“To a problem you created.”

Elias called for a vote.

Under the trust clause, Madison could have removed Brandon immediately.

Instead, she requested that the independent directors decide whether he should remain in authority during the investigation.

The vote was unanimous.

Brandon was suspended as chief executive, barred from company systems, and ordered to surrender his access badge, devices, and corporate accounts.

Nora was appointed interim chief financial officer with full authority restored, while Elias assumed temporary executive oversight.

When security approached, Brandon refused to move.

“This company will collapse without me.”

Madison looked around the room her father had designed.

His photograph hung near the doors, not as decoration but as a reminder of what Witford had once promised its employees.

“No company should depend on one man’s ego,” she said.

Security escorted Brandon from the boardroom.

Laya followed separately after surrendering her phone and laptop under the terms of the investigation.

At the doorway, she looked back at Madison.

Her face held anger, fear, and the dawning realization that Brandon had lied to both women for different reasons.

Madison felt no triumph.

She was too tired for victory.

Her body ached.

Her marriage had ended before strangers.

Her son had spent his first
