STORY PART 4 — My Husband Banned Me While His Mistress Wore His Command Jacket

The video continued.

Vanessa asked about a competitor’s bid.

Andrew told her the competitor’s estimated price, staffing weakness, and technical concern.

The information was not public.

Even I understood that immediately.

Mercer ordered the investigator to stop the recording.

The gate area had become silent again, but this silence was different.

It no longer belonged to my humiliation.

It belonged to Andrew.

He looked at the phone, then at Vanessa.

“You recorded that?”

Her eyes filled with panic.

“You told me to document our strategy meetings.”

“Not that meeting.”

“You said we needed proof that the business plan was yours.”

Andrew’s voice dropped.

“Do not say another word without an attorney.”

Mercer turned to him.

“For once, Commander, that is sensible advice.”

I took Ethan to the SUV while the investigators escorted Andrew and Vanessa into separate buildings.

Harris carried the untouched cinnamon rolls and set them on the passenger seat.

“I’m sorry, ma’am,” he said.

“You have nothing to apologize for.”

He glanced toward Ethan, who had climbed into the back seat without speaking.

“My mother found out about my father the same way,” Harris said quietly.

“Someone at his job finally told her the truth.

I always wished they had done it sooner.”

I thanked him and closed the door.

The coffee Ethan had prepared was still warm.

He placed the thermos in the cup holder and stared through the window at the command building.

“Dad didn’t drink it,” he said.

That small sentence hurt more than anything Andrew had said to me.

I drove away from the base with both hands steady on the wheel.

At the first traffic light, Ethan asked, “Was that lady why Dad stopped coming to my games?”

I could not answer honestly because I did not know.

“Your father’s choices are not your fault,” I said.

“Not the games.

Not today.

None of it.”

He nodded, but tears slid down his face.

I pulled into a quiet parking lot and climbed into the back seat.

He pressed his face against my shoulder and cried until his breathing slowed.

While I held him, my phone filled with messages from Andrew.

Do not speak to investigators without me.

You are destroying my career over a misunderstanding.

Think about Ethan.

The last message made anger rise through the numbness.

Andrew had used our son as a shield after humiliating him at the gate.

I forwarded every message to my attorney.

By noon, Marcus arrived at the Coronado house with a locksmith, a family-law attorney named Elena Ruiz, and two vehicles for our belongings.

The property manager had disabled Andrew’s code but left mine active.

Inside, the house looked exactly as it had that morning.

Andrew’s shoes were beside the entry bench.

His awards filled the study wall.

A framed photograph from his promotion ceremony showed me pinning on his new insignia while Ethan looked up at him with open pride.
