She climbed onto the chair beside his wheelchair and pointed toward the passing crowd.
Some people recognized him.
A few lifted phones.
Most simply continued walking.
Michael did not mind.
On the table between them lay the cracked blue phone, the park permit, and the scarf Abby had once chased across the path when everyone else stepped over it.
His fortune had been returned.
His company was safe.
His brother could no longer speak in his name.
But the thing Michael held most carefully was the small paper cup Abby had placed between his unsteady hands.
