STORY PART 5 — He Called Her a Nanny—Then the DNA Report Appeared

4.9Editorial score

Daniel placed the original Bennett Biotech incorporation ledger in front of me.

“There is another matter you need to understand,” he said.

The ledger carried my maiden name, Victoria Hale, on the first page.

Before Ryan entered my life, I had been a molecular chemist developing diagnostic compounds.

My father invested in my work.

Robert managed the business side, but the patents, early research, and initial capital came from me.

When I left the laboratory to raise Ryan, Robert assured me he would protect my interest.

Over time, annual reports began listing him as founder.

Interviews described me as his supportive wife.

I noticed the changes, but I never imagined he had altered the corporate records themselves.

Daniel pointed to the ownership schedule.

“Your father’s trust retained sixty-one percent of the voting shares for you.

Those shares could not be transferred without your verified consent.

Mr.

Bennett filed amended ledgers claiming you transferred them to him twelve years ago.

We found no valid authorization.”

Robert moved toward the document.

“That company is mine.

I built it.”

“You managed it,” I said.

He looked at me as though surprised I had spoken.

Daniel continued.

“The trust agreement also contains a fraud clause.

Any officer who attempts to obtain Victoria’s shares through forged documents is immediately suspended from voting authority pending judicial review.”

Ryan glanced toward the ballroom entrance.

The hotel’s security director opened the doors.

Two corporate investigators and a uniformed officer entered with Robert’s assistant between them.

She looked shaken but determined.

“Mr.

Bennett,” one investigator said, “the board has received evidence of document fraud, unauthorized transfers, and misuse of company funds.

Effective immediately, your executive access is suspended.”

Robert laughed once, sharply.

“You cannot suspend the chief executive at his own event.”

The investigator looked toward me.

“The controlling shareholder can.”

Every eye turned in my direction.

Daniel placed a pen beside the ledger.

Earlier, Robert had announced that the divorce papers were already signed.

He had expected that sentence to strip me of choice.

Now the only signature that mattered was mine.

Robert lowered his voice.

“Victoria, don’t do this emotionally.

We can discuss it at home.”

“Which home?” I asked.

“The one you planned to give Sophia in the forged settlement?”

His silence answered me.

Sophia picked up her purse.

“This has nothing to do with me.”

The officer stopped her before she reached the doors.

“Ms.

Monroe, investigators would like to speak with you regarding the documents submitted to the Monroe trust.”

“I have attorneys.”

“You may call them.”

The cameras followed as she was escorted to a private room.

Her face remained rigid, but her hands shook around her phone.
