It said, “You do not ruin anything.
You are wanted here.
You are loved here.
You never have to earn your place in this home.”
Lily read it twice.
Then she climbed onto the couch and pressed the note against my chest.
“Can we keep it forever?”
“Forever,” I told her.
We framed that note too.
Not because I wanted her to remember the Christmas she was abandoned, but because I wanted her to have proof of the Christmas she stopped believing it was her fault.
The first folder protected her in court.
The police report, timestamps, videos, medical records, and messages made it impossible for powerful adults to bury what they had done beneath polished apologies.
But the second note protected something paper alone could not repair.
It gave Lily new words to place where Vanessa’s cruelty had been.
You are wanted.
You are loved.
You belong.
