Every competitor will know you are vulnerable.

Every activist investor will use them against you.

Sylvie will control access to your heirs.”

Damon stared at him.

For years, Lucien had spoken about people as assets, risks, leverage, and liabilities.

Damon had admired that clarity.

Now he heard the emptiness beneath it.

“They are babies,” Damon said.

“They are succession instruments.”

Sylvie’s face went white.

Damon stepped closer to his uncle.

“Say that again.”

Lucien seemed to realize too late what he had revealed.

The door opened behind him.

Two nurses entered with hospital security.

A moment later, Damon’s general counsel, Evelyn Shaw, appeared in the hallway beside the head of his private security team.

Lucien looked around.

His expression hardened.

“What is this?”

Damon held out his hand toward Sylvie.

She gave him the flash drive.

“This,” Damon said, “is the end of your control.”

Lucien’s eyes fixed on the drive.

Then he turned to Sylvie.

“You foolish girl.

Do you have any idea what you have done?”

The room became still.

Evelyn took out her phone.

“You may want to repeat that,” she said.

“The recording started when I entered the hall.”

Lucien’s calm vanished.

He moved toward Sylvie.

Hospital security blocked him.

“I spent thirty years protecting this family,” he snapped.

“I will not let a frightened woman and two accidents destroy everything.”

Damon’s fist clenched.

But he did not strike him.

He did something Lucien feared more.

He smiled.

“You just confessed in front of witnesses.”

Lucien looked at Evelyn.

Then at the security officers.

Then at Damon.

“This company exists because of me.”

“No,” Damon said.

“It existed in spite of you.”

Police arrived before midnight.

The flash drive contained more than Sylvie had known.

Payment records tied Lucien to Martin Vale.

Copies of intercepted letters.

Instructions to reroute calls.

Drafts of forged messages.

Bank transfers to a private investigator who had followed Sylvie through three states.

A proposed guardianship petition that would have declared her mentally unstable after the twins were born.

And a plan to force her into signing the waiver within twenty-four hours of delivery.
