Mia had kept the messages.

Marcus had located archived courier logs showing that Northstar’s original banking documents had been delivered directly to Daniel’s private address rather than the company’s vendor department.

None of them had brought Daniel down alone.

Together, they had made it impossible for him to hide.

On Evelyn’s fifty-sixth birthday, she arrived at the office shortly after eight.

There were no executives waiting with termination papers.

Instead, she found twenty-nine roses arranged beside her old framed note from Bennett Manufacturing.

One rose for every year she had given the company before Daniel tried to erase her.

A small card rested against the vase.

It was signed by Rachel, Lauren, Mia, Marcus, and dozens of others.

The message contained only one sentence:

“Thank you for asking the questions the rest of us were afraid to ask.”

Evelyn stood beside the flowers for a long time.

She thought about the folding table above the laundromat, the broken printer, and the three signatures placed on an agreement when none of them knew whether the company would survive its first year.

Daniel had believed loyalty meant silence.

He had believed age meant weakness.

He had believed a cardboard box could carry away twenty-nine years of memory, authority, and truth.

He had been wrong about all three.

Evelyn took one rose from the vase and carried it into the morning meeting.

This time, when she entered the glass conference room, no one looked away.
