STORY PART 6 — The Brass Key That Made the Billionaire’s Fiancée Turn Pale

4.9Editorial score

Jacob learned that Emma hated expensive restaurants where the portions looked decorative.

Emma learned that Jacob became quiet when he was angry because he feared resembling his father, who had used volume as a weapon.

They argued about money, privacy, and the imbalance created whenever his name entered a room before he did.

Jacob listened when she told him that generosity could become control if the recipient was never allowed to say no.

Eleanor recovered and returned to the foundation board.

She treated their first date as a personal victory, though Emma reminded her repeatedly that matchmaking had not been part of her care plan.

A year after the night of the wrong SUV, Emma completed her final shift before beginning a master’s program in nursing leadership.

She walked through the south entrance of St.

Catherine’s just after sunrise.

A black SUV waited at the curb.

This time, Jacob stood beside it holding two coffees.

The rear door remained closed.

Emma checked the license plate anyway.

“You know,” he said, “most people would trust the driver after a year.”

“Most people didn’t wake up on a billionaire’s shoulder.”

He opened the door for her, but she did not climb into the far seat.

She slid across the leather and left enough space beside her for him.

Jacob joined her and handed her the coffee.

Daniel looked at them through the mirror.

“Where to?”

Emma rested her head against Jacob’s shoulder—awake this time, unashamed, and entirely certain she was in the right car.

“Home,” she said.
