STORY PART 2 — My Ex Found Me—Beside the Billionaire Everyone Wanted

Before we proceed, I need to confirm that you filed the financial preservation request yourself.”

“I did.”

Ryan whipped toward me.

“You filed against me before you left?”

I had almost not done it.

Three nights earlier, I had been sitting on the bathroom floor while Lily slept in her crib.

Ryan believed I was crying.

Instead, I had photographed every statement in the folder he kept behind the towels: transfers from our joint savings, payments to an apartment I had never seen, and a new business account opened in the name of Mercer Strategic Holdings.

My college roommate, Tessa, had become a paralegal.

Months earlier, after hearing Ryan berate me over the phone, she had said one sentence I could not forget.

If you ever decide to leave, collect evidence before you collect clothes.

So I did.

I uploaded the photographs to a secure drive.

I downloaded the camera footage.

I filed an emergency request asking the court to prevent either spouse from hiding or draining marital property.

The request had not yet been reviewed when Ryan emptied the account.

I had boarded the plane believing my filing had come too late.

“I knew you were moving money,” I told him.

“I did not know you would take all of it.”

“It was my income.”

“It was our account.”

Ryan laughed and looked around as though expecting someone to join him.

No one did.

Vivian removed another document.

“The account was frozen by the bank forty-two minutes ago after receiving notice of the pending preservation request and evidence of unusual transfers.

The remaining funds are being held until a judge reviews the matter.”

Ryan’s arrogance cracked.

“Remaining funds?”

“The transfer to Mercer Strategic Holdings has also been flagged.”

He stepped toward her.

Noah’s security chief blocked him with one arm.

“Do not touch me,” Ryan said.

“Then stop moving toward counsel.”

The family-services liaison asked whether Lily needed food, a diaper change, or medical attention.

Her ordinary questions nearly broke me.

For days, Ryan had described me as irrational and dangerous.

This woman looked at me and saw a tired mother with a baby who needed care.

“She needs a change,” I said.

The liaison guided me toward a private family room near the gate.

Noah started to follow, then stopped.

“Would you prefer privacy?” he asked.

The question mattered more than he knew.

Ryan never asked what I preferred.

He decided, then told me I had agreed.

“Please come with us,” I said.

Inside the family room, the roar of the terminal softened.

I laid Lily on the changing table and tried to open the diaper bag, but my hands would not cooperate.

Noah held the bag steady while I found the wipes.

“You do not have to help me,” I said.

“I know.”

That was why I let him.

When Lily was settled, Vivian joined us.

She closed the door and placed the folder on a small counter.

“There is more,” she said.

I looked at Noah.
