STORY PART 2 — My Sister Claimed My Husband’s Baby—The DNA Named Another Guest

Claire’s expression did not move.

“You sent my husband sixty-three messages in one month.

You met him at two hotels.

You told him you were pregnant.

Then, when he refused to leave me, you began sleeping with Eric and told Eric the baby was his.

Which part was not meant to hurt me?”

A stunned murmur moved across the room.

Eric looked at Daniel as if he had been struck.

“You slept with her?”

Daniel finally spoke.

“It ended before she told you about the pregnancy.”

“That makes it better?”

“No.”

Eric stepped toward him, but two hotel security officers moved between them.

I had arranged for the officers to remain outside the ballroom because Grant had warned me that men who believed they were in control often became unpredictable when proof replaced denial.

“Nobody touches anyone,” one officer said.

Eric stopped, but his hands remained clenched.

Natalie tried to recover the confidence she had carried to the microphone.

“Rachel planned all of this because she hates me,” she said loudly.

“She invited everyone here to humiliate me.”

I looked at the three hundred people she had chosen as witnesses to my humiliation.

“I invited everyone to celebrate my marriage,” I said.

“You took the microphone.”

The room went silent again.

My mother was crying at her table.

My father had not moved.

He watched Natalie with a grief deeper than anger.

Eric turned to me.

“You knew about us for four months?”

“Yes.”

“And you said nothing?”

“I was waiting for the truth to finish introducing itself.”

He stared at me, trying to recognize the woman he had kissed that morning.

The truth was that I had barely recognized myself during those four months.

The night Grant showed me the first photographs, I drove home and sat in the garage for nearly an hour.

Through the windshield, I could see the warm kitchen light and Eric moving behind the curtains.

I remember thinking that the house looked exactly the same even though my life inside it had disappeared.

I wanted to storm through the door.

I wanted to throw the photographs across the table and demand an explanation.

But anger would have warned him.

Restraint gave him confidence.

During the following weeks, Eric grew careless.

He used our joint card to pay for hotel rooms.

He transferred money from a consulting account to cover Natalie’s rent.

He told me he was flying to Nashville while Grant photographed him entering Natalie’s apartment in Chicago.

Natalie became careless too.

She sent Eric photographs from hotel rooms, then backed them up automatically to a family cloud account she had asked me to help set up years earlier.

Grant documented everything lawfully.

My attorney, Marissa Cole, reviewed each item before it entered the red folder.

Then Grant discovered Daniel.

He had followed Natalie to a private prenatal testing clinic, expecting to see Eric.

Instead, Daniel arrived through a side entrance.

Claire later found the payment receipt on a card she and Daniel shared.

When she confronted him, Daniel admitted the affair and gave her a copy of the report.

Claire contacted me through Grant.
