I never logged into it.”

“Did you sign the formation documents?” Daniel asked.

“I signed what he gave me.”

“Without reading them?”

Her silence answered.

Nathan leaned close to her.

“Stop talking.”

Vanessa recoiled.

“Don’t speak to me like that.”

His voice dropped.

“Everything you have came from me.”

Clara watched Vanessa’s expression change.

For eighteen months, Vanessa had believed Nathan’s cruelty was reserved for the wife he claimed not to love.

Now she heard the same contempt directed at her the moment she stopped being useful.

Vanessa reached into her evening bag.

Nathan grabbed her wrist.

Dominic was beside him instantly.

“Release her.”

Nathan obeyed.

Vanessa pulled out her phone.

“There are messages,” she said.

“He told me Clara was unstable.

He said the family planned to remove her because she was stealing money.”

Nathan stared at her.

Clara read it twice.

Nathan watched her, perhaps hoping to see tears.

She placed the phone beside the folder.

“I didn’t know about that message,” she said.

For the first time that night, pain entered her voice.

It did not weaken her.

It made the room colder.

Samuel folded his hands.

“Nathan, do you deny writing it?”

Nathan said nothing.

“Do you deny instructing your assistant to exclude Clara?”

Silence.

“Do you deny filing the transfers?”

Nathan’s jaw worked.

Finally, he said, “I built this family after my father became ill.”

Clara looked at him.

“You inherited operations that were already functioning.”

“I expanded them.”

“You expanded your office, your motorcade, and your photograph on the company website.”

A few witnesses looked down.

Clara continued.

“Revenue increased four percent under your leadership.

Legal exposure tripled.
