STORY PART 2 — His Pregnant Mistress Smiled—Then Madison Opened His Lab Report

4.9Editorial score

She drove to Pierce Global.

The building was nearly empty when she arrived.

The lobby guards knew her well enough not to ask why the chairman’s wife was entering after dark with wet snow on her coat and an expression that discouraged conversation.

On the forty-sixth floor, Madison entered her private office and locked the door.

Her printer sat against the wall.

Twelve days earlier, the ultrasound photograph had emerged from it between confidential board papers.

She had spent those twelve days asking one question.

How?

Only a small number of people could route documents directly to that printer.

Madison, Nathaniel, their executive assistants and the company’s secure internal document system.

Veronica had wanted Madison to see the ultrasound.

More important, Veronica had wanted the delivery to feel invasive.

Personal.

Unavoidable.

She wanted a confrontation.

Madison had denied her one.

Now she understood why that had probably unsettled Veronica.

Madison opened Magnolia on her desktop and transferred the files onto an encrypted drive.

She began with the Aspen photograph.

Nathaniel entering the chalet.

Veronica behind him.

Timestamp: 11:42 p.m.

Then the hotel invoices.

Separate rooms on paper.

Shared transportation.

Private dining charges.

Spa appointments.

A car service that had transported both passengers repeatedly while Nathaniel’s public calendar placed him in investor sessions.

Then the wire transfers.

They were large enough to matter but structured carefully enough not to attract immediate attention.

Nathaniel had sent money to an account connected to a private consultancy Veronica controlled.

Madison had originally assumed the money was simply support for a mistress.

Now she wondered whether Nathaniel had been paying for something else.

Silence.

Discretion.

Or the future Veronica had promised him.

Her phone buzzed again.

This time the message came from Veronica.

You should stop making this harder than it needs to be.

Madison stared at it.

Then another arrived.

Nathaniel has made his choice.

Madison saved screenshots without replying.

A minute later came the third.

The baby changes everything.

Madison looked toward the printer.

“Yes,” she whispered to the empty room.

“It does.”

The next morning Nathaniel came home at 6:17.

Madison was already in the kitchen drinking coffee.

He walked in wearing yesterday’s shirt beneath a fresh overcoat.

The lipstick mark was gone.

So was his arrogance, or at least the effortless version of it.

He stopped when he saw her.

“You ignored me all night.”
